Lightning Strike

We had lightning strike very close to the house Thursday night. It struck this tree and in the process took out the hot water heater, two cable boxes, internet connection, and a PC. The cable man came and replaced the boxes and restored the internet connection. We put in a new hot water heater this morning. The PC will not power up and so it was sent to the PC hospital.

And then there were three...Toonces went to Kitty Heaven today. He made it to 18. The photo above was from Jan 2008 and the photo below was from this weekend. We have lost both our cats in a 12-month period. Both passed away from old age. Bubba passed away April 2008. He was 15-1/2.

Goodbye Basketball

LSU's basketball season ended yesterday. It was amusing to see the Duke fans cheering for LSU.
Spring college football practice has started. Preseason NFL football is only 4 months away.

Holly Beach

Last Saturday we drove down to Holly Beach. After Rita and Ike, they are still rebuilding. The Cajun Riviera extends from Holly Beach in Cameron Parish to Cypremort Point in Vermilion Parish. We also stopped and walked the Wetland Walkway in the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge. There were no gators out, just one duck. The nearby waterways were teeming with crabs.

We currently have Banana Pudding and Cherry Amaretto Cordial Blue Bell in the freezer.

Wind and Winston

It was a very blustery day today. We planted potatoes, carrots, green beans, peas, and cucumbers. We grilled hamburgers, sausage, and chicken and had deviled eggs, beans, and fries for sides. Last night we celebrated my Dad's birthday at Mazen's. They serve some middle-eastern fare along with seafood dishes. We had kibbie, tabouli, fried oysters, flounder, crawfish bisque, gumbo, and crab cakes. LSU clinched the SEC today with a win over Kentucky.

The parade started at 8:30 a.m. It reached my parent's neighborhood around 1:00 p.m.

U2 News

U2 will be on David Letterman for five nights starting Monday, March 2. Their new CD "No Line on the Horizon" will be released in the US on March 3.

Spring Sprung

The azaleas have bloomed.

The Waiting

The waiting is the hardest part; waiting for scraps.Toonces turned 18 this month.

Dirt Day

Winston is a house dog. He's quite content to watch garden work from afar.
Monty loves to dig in the dirt and then lay in it.
Every dog got a ride in the wheelbarrow.

We're planting potatoes soon. We turned the dirt over today. Next week we'll add some sand.
