Happy Dogs

From the Steelers web: "Rookie Rashard Mendenhall will get his first NFL start filling in for Parker. “Rashard is ready,” said Tomlin. “He is a talented guy. He has been practicing well. He gets his opportunity and that is what team football is about. You look at his peers around the league and they’ve been getting opportunities, partly because they don’t have Willie Parker playing in front of them. He gets his opportunity. I am sure he is excited about it. I know our team is excited to see what he is capable of doing. What better way to start than on Monday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens.” Willie suffered a sprained knee after tussling with the Eagles Sunday.

Electricity

Hurricane Ike and a cold front collided last Sunday afternoon. We experienced 3 hours of high wind gusts up to 70 mph. Major damage was felt throughout the region with trees falling and shingles flying. Our trees were trimmed over a month ago and we only lost a few limbs and no shingles. The electricity went out around 2:00 p.m. It came back on Tuesday night. The streets across from us to the east and north got their electricity back Thursday night. Some of my co-workers were still without electricity Friday. I let everything in my fridge and freezer get cold again before I threw it out.

Having no idea how widespread the damage was, we headed out to BW3's Sunday night to see the Steelers-Browns game. They had power! We put our name on a list for a table and some gracious strangers offered to share their table of 6 seats with us since they were only a party of 2. Even better, they were Steeler fans. They were plenty of Browns fans present, and it was very loud and entertaining to hear the cheers and jeers after every play. You would think in this area that a Steeler-Browns game would be very noisy compared to an Eagles-Cowboys game.

Well, Monday night we headed back to BW3's to try and watch the Eagles-Cowboys game. We had to wait over an hour for a table and ended up in the bar area. The fans there that night were way louder than Sunday night's crowd! It was incredibly entertaining, as was the game.

Finally Football

The boys and I watched the Steelers today. (Toonces slept through most of the game. It's OK; he's 17-1/2.)

Yesterday, Monty decided he wanted to sleep in a drawer. It was partially open, so he made it into his bed.

Labor (Snooze) Day

Winston sleeps hard, plays hard, and eats with gusto. He can also pitch a really good fit if he thinks he's being unjustly treated.
